I was looking through the house and senate versions of the stimulus bills and listening to the President speak the other night and one thing really jumped out at me, that is "transparent oversight". In other words the money that the government is spending in order to make sure that people are spending our money correctly. Here's a list I came up with from the House version of the bill:
Agriculture Inspector general: 22.5 million
Commerce Dept. 10.0 million
Justice Dept. 2.0 million
NASA 2.0 million
National Science Foundation 2.0 million
Defense Dept. 15.0 million
Energy Dept 15.0 million
GSA 15.0 million
Here's a good one:
SBA oversight 0
Extra money for SBA oversight 10 million
Extra money for employees of SBA oversight 0
(I didn't make this up)
Homeland Security oversight 2 million
EPA 20 million
Labor Dept 6 million
HHS 19 million
Education Dept 15 million
SSA oversight 2 million
GAO 25 million
VA 1 million
State Dept 0 (Your welcome Hillary)
Transportation 20 million
HUD oversight 20 million
The total I come up with for oversight is $222.5 million. The point I am trying to make is, I bet with all this oversight, that the Government will still pay $20,000 for hammer. Getting to boiling over point with this stimulus bill. Can't believe anybody thinks this is a good idea....
