Last night I ventured out amongst the three dimensional people and attend a Western Slope Conservative Alliance meeting. They brought in a couple of speakers that sounded interesting.
Matt Arnold - Clear the Bench Colorado
The first speaker was Matt Arnold of Clear the Bench Colorado . The talk was very informative and interesting. The main point being that the three Supreme's that are up for retention this year should not be retained, Because of the overwhelming power grab of the Colorado Supreme Court over the last few years. One example he gave are the ruling that made fees a way for the legislature to raise taxes without voter approval. Another example was when the Colorado Supreme Court decided that redistricting plan in 2003. He made valid points and I invite you to check out the link above.
Michael Franc - Heritage Foundation
The second speaker was Michael Franc of the Heritage Foundation. Mr. Franc is Heritage Foundations Vice President of Government Relations. He was a former Communications Director to Rep. Richard Armey (R-Texas). He is a frequent guest on CBS and FOX News. As Heritage’s vice president of government relations, Franc leads a team that helps members of Congress understand and defend conservative principles in exercising their constitutional powers to approve budgets, make laws and oversee government operations.
I really enjoy listening to someone who has been "inside" the system and hear their prospectives on the workings of the Congress. He spoke about the current fiscal crisis, entitlements, the Obama tax increase and many other things. He also brought a publication called Solutions for America. You can find the same information on this page http://www.heritage.org/Research/Projects/Solutions-for-America . I suggest you give it a read. There are those that say that say that Conservatives have no solutions, there is a whole book of them here.
As I sat and listened to the Q and; A period at the end, what really impressed me was how much the public seems to have learned over the last couple of years. I'm not sure if it is because we live in a very conservative area or it is education out of necessity of the times but the people have awoke. A couple of years ago I don't believe that there could ever have been a meeting with such an educated audience. The people are mad as hell and they are not going to take it anymore. So a little note to the folks that are running for office this year (and I believe in 2012), you might as well pack up your D.C. apartment, we are sending you home.
In all I enjoyed my time amongst the 3-D people and I might even do it again.
