2009 Elections

Well election day has come and gone and I was disappointed about the Mesa County races and impressed with the races that occurred in New York, New Jersey, Maine, and Virginia.

In Mesa County; the term limits on Sheriff, DA, and Coroner terms were extended and Rose Femia Pugliese lost the school board race so everything I wanted to happen, didn't happen. I hate it when everything you vote for loses. I want to shake people off the street and say "What are you thinking!" But I know that this is a democratic republic and the choice of the people (even if I do not like it) is the law. That comforts me greatly.

The elections back east give me "Hope for change". In the House seat in NY district 23, even though the Conservative lost, I believe that the Blue Dog Democrats (are you listening John Salazar) will be taking notice that a third party almost beat a Democrat in a "Blue State". Gives me a little hope that maybe those Democrats will care more about their jobs then pleasing Premier Obama. Maybe we can turn around this health care debacle.

In the Virginia and New Jersey elections I feel it sends a message our executive branch's of government: "Mr. Obama....look what can happen to you in 3 years" and "Mr. Ritter you see what is going to happen to you next year?" The only problems are that President Obama is to arrogant to actually hear a message like that, and Governor Ritter will have to hire somebody to analyze the message.

I also mentioned the Maine election. You might be wondering what election in Maine? Well they were voting on if Maine should allow gay marriage. The voted "NO WAY JOSE'" ! Anytime the sanctity of marriage is protected, I am very happy. This measure has lost in every state that has had a popular election on gay marriage (31 in all).

With the another election year over, both good and bad results (in my opinion), I love to ponder how great it is to live in a country that and allows it's citizens the opportunity to choose it's leaders. Even with all the disagreements at election time, we can always agree that we are truly blessed to be living in a free, United States.
