Oil in the Gulf

I have been absorbing all the news on this Gulf Coast oil disaster and I thought I throw in my two cents worth...

First off, this isn't Bush's fault. President Bush is kicking back in his easy chair in Dallas. President Bush's presidency ended 15 months ago, B Hussein Obama is at the helm now... the buck stops there.

As environmentalists strive to make us drill for oil further and further off our shores, the risk becomes more and more dangerous.  If this oil well was closer to shore, it would have been capped already.  The high pressures of 1 mile of water sitting on the pipe is not making this an easy task. Why don't we drill closer to shore...or better yet on land let's say ANWR.

I'm sure that BP, Halliburton, whatever other companies involved understand that they will be paying for the leak cleanup, so why don't we move past this "pissing match" and start solving the problem. There will be time enough for the court cases and political garbage later.  There should be a true effort between the brightest minds in the industry to stop the leak first.  Get the lawyers and politicians out of the loop and let's send in the oil men and engineers.

Stopping the drilling of any new wells in the gulf is crazy. To start with, just because we stop does not mean everybody stops.  China, Russia, North Vietnam and others will be drilling there. We do not shut down the whole interstate system when we have a car crash. We do not shut down all mining with a mine disaster.  Let's keep moving forward, let's not stop all production to make political point.  Now is not the time to drive up oil prices an put people out of work.

Now is the time for American ingenuity. Fix the bleeding and stop the bickering. Maybe this will be easier for you politicians and lawyers to understand....Sit down and shut up, and let them do their jobs.

  1. I understand that are 3,500 "Rigs" operating in the Gulf Of Mexico. One has, recently, failed. That amounts to a current failure rate of .029%. While there shouldn't be any failure it, is inevitable, in our imperfect World, that certain tragedies will occur and we have always learned from our mistakes; the history of our progress is replete with that. I don't wish to minimize the impact of this incident on the environment, it's real and those responsible will pay! I do not , however, feel that this one incident should curtail further development in extracting this very important natural resource. Certainly the incident, at hand, will not stop other Nations, operating in the Gulf, from their further pursuits. If deep sea drilling represents such a big problem, perhaps certain "powers that be" should re-think their opposition to extracting oil from other known sources in Colorado, Alaska, North Dakota and elsewhere. I'm all for the development of "Green Energy" but it's not there yet and we continue to need petroleum for many, many, uses beyond just energy.

  2. My father is in the oil industry and I am in mining. I get a kick out of liberal tree huggers who jump on the electric car band wagon!! Its the same people who will use a computer "witch of course took a mine and a oil rig to build" and lobby to get rid of the gas consuming cars and go electric!!

Now let’s say we did do this... hum.... what is a electric car run off of??? oh ya battery’s and electricity!!! what are battery’s made off??? oh yaa copper or lithium!!! cool more mining!!!!!
Electricity!!!! more coal mining to fire up the power plants!!!!

So you want to go solar??? we will talk about the mining required to make up all of them solar panels later.....

So bring on the green!!! Miners love it.!!

    Troy Day..
